Nature Spirit Tarot A 78-Card Deck and Book for the Journey of the Soul

Jean Marie Herzel painted all 78 cards in watercolor, interpreting the full Major and Minor Arcana through the living world of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Each card draws on a carefully chosen selection of plants, birds, insects, reptiles, and gemstones, with the symbolism of each natural element traced through Native American, Celtic, and Eastern and Western philosophical traditions. The Magician card, for instance, features a Merlin Falcon, an Amanita mushroom, Western Sword Fern, and an Eastern Pondhawk Dragonfly, each chosen because it reflects an aspect of what the Magician means in tarot. The companion book gives each card two full pages, opening with the traditional tarot meaning and then explaining the specific connections between the natural imagery and the card’s archetype. It is a deck for nature lovers and readers who want to understand the why behind every image.

About the Creator

Jean Marie Herzel is a self-taught artist working in watercolors and hand-painted drums who lives in the Pacific Northwest. After a serious illness in her late twenties led her to leave a career as a librarian, she committed herself fully to painting the flora and fauna of the natural world. Through that work, she found a path to deeper understanding of both nature and life, and founded Nature Spirit Art to share what she had learned through her artwork.
