The Chinese Tarot

Created by Jui Guoliang

The Chinese Tarot translates the archetypal language of tarot into the visual tradition of classical Chinese painting and calligraphy. Artist Jui Guoliang works in ink and watercolor, drawing on Chinese legend, philosophy, and literary tradition to populate the Major Arcana with figures such as Confucius, the bodhisattva Kuan Yin, and Chang Tao Ling, the Heavenly Master. The Minor Arcana is fully pictorial, with each card grounded in the lessons and imagery of Chinese cultural history.

The result is a deck that brings the clarity and elegance of traditional Chinese aesthetics to tarot's structural framework. Stuart R. Kaplan's booklet provides both upright and reversed meanings alongside notes on the card's symbolism.
