This deck belongs to the Besancon tradition, in which the High Priestess and the Hierophant are replaced with the classical figures of Juno and Jupiter. Created by Baptiste-Paul Grimaud between 1891 and 1899, it is a late-nineteenth-century expression of a format that first emerged in Swiss and French card-making traditions centuries earlier. This Lo Scarabeo Anima Antiqua limited and numbered reproduction honors its historical significance.
