The Miller Besancon Tarot is recognized as one of the most splendid eighteenth-century tarot decks. As a Besancon-style deck, it replaces the Pope and Papess with the classical gods Jupiter and Juno, a substitution that helped this type of deck find acceptance in Protestant regions of France, Germany, and Switzerland. Strong similarities exist with the Andreas Benedictur Gobl tarot from 1770, but the Miller deck distinguishes itself through its particularly vivid colors and fine detail. The original is held at the British Museum and this limited edition of 900 decks from Rinascimento Italian Style Art reproduces every element of the original faithfully, including the distinctive manufacturing quirks of the period. The deluxe packaging designed by artist Letizia Rivetti is handcrafted by Italian artisans and available in either a book-shaped box or a telescopic box, both lined with red velvet and covered in marbled paper. The set includes a historical booklet by Giordano Berti on tarot in the German countries and a leaflet with divinatory card meanings.
Giordano Berti is a writer and historian of esotericism in art, recognized internationally for his historical scholarship on tarot and for designing educational games. Letizia Rivetti is an art designer and founder of ArtStudioLetizia, known for spectacular art installations and handcrafted art objects. Together they lead Rinascimento Italian Style Art, a publishing project dedicated to the historical study and reproduction of rare tarot and oracle decks.
