Where the traditional Tarot de Marseille has horses, the Squid Cake version might have snails. Where you would expect stern religious figures, you find pink birds. This 78-card deck takes the structure and intent of the classic Marseille system and runs it through a wildly imaginative filter: snails, octopi, carnivorous plants, cakes, and strange creatures appear throughout, but the underlying meaning of each card remains intact. The palette is vivid and warm, and the humor is sharp enough to keep even serious readings from feeling heavy.
About the Creator
Jessica Rollar is an artist, card reader, and writer based in the Arizona White Mountains, where she lives with her family, two dogs, a cat, and seven hens. A self-taught illustrator working in digital media, ink, and watercolor, she started reading cards in 2013 and quickly moved into creating her own decks. Her work tends toward the everyday and practical rather than the mystical, and she draws inspiration from street art, character design, and daily life.
