Medieval Tarot

The Medieval Tarot takes its visual inspiration from late Gothic art and the intricate miniatures found in books of hours from the late fifteenth century. The imagery feels at home in that period, with an atmosphere of quiet contemplation and a sense that each card is a step on a path that leads from the material to the spiritual. Based on the Rider-Waite-Smith system, it is an accessible deck that carries genuine historical feeling.

About the Creator

Born in Bologna in 1956, the artist later moved to Rome for several years and was introduced to painting by his father at a young age. After returning to Bologna, he studied at an art high school and then trained under the painter Wolfango. His work seeks a synthesis of modern sensibility and old master tradition within the figurative tradition. Since 1990 he has lived in Genoa, where he has worked on restoration projects and taught at the Ligustica Academy of Fine Arts.
