The Mantegna-Ladenspelder Tarot 1540 is a Renaissance-era symbolic system that maps a progression from earthly social stations upward through the arts and sciences, the virtues, and ultimately the heavenly spheres. It is not a traditional 78-card tarot but a 50-card set organized into five groups of ten, reflecting the medieval cosmological vision of a stairway connecting the human to the divine. The artwork is striking and detailed, and the large-format deluxe edition comes in a specially crafted book-shaped box designed by art designer Letizia Rivetti.
