Folklore Tarot draws from myths and legends spanning many cultures, using these shared stories to illuminate the universal patterns underlying the tarot. Each pip card is a richly detailed floral composition, while the court cards and Major Arcana feature creatures from global traditions of folklore and legend. The 78 cards come with black painted edges and a combination of spot gloss and matte varnish for a sophisticated finish, accompanied by a 136-page illustrated guidebook.
Rowan Ortins is a Montreal-based illustrator and designer whose work spans picture books, children's novels, a coloring book, and now the Folklore Tarot. After three years as an in-house designer for a fabric company, they frequently incorporate pattern elements into their illustration work and particularly enjoy the challenge of creating coherent collections using a limited color palette. Their work draws inspiration from the natural world as well as mythological and magical storytelling traditions.
