First published in 1970, the Aquarian Tarot brought medieval tarot symbolism into conversation with the aesthetic sensibilities of the modern era through a striking Art Deco style. The deck has remained in print for more than five decades, which says something about how effectively its imagery connects with readers. It sits in a tradition influenced by Art Nouveau masters like Alfons Mucha and Aubrey Beardsley, and its clean, elegant figures continue to feel both timeless and distinctly of their moment.
Artist David Palladini was born in Italy and came to America as a child, later studying art, photography, and film at the Pratt Institute in New York City. The dual cultural background is visible in the richness of his illustrative work. Beyond the Aquarian Tarot, he illustrated books for publishers including Viking and produced work across a wide range of literary and commercial projects. He currently lives in Newport Beach, California, where he continues to paint and exhibit.
